Timbermen Involved in Deadline Deals

June 30, 2008
The Nanaimo Jr. A Timbermen would like to announce the acquisition of Tanner Lemire from the Delta Islanders.

Tanner is a 3rd and final year veteran of the BCJr.ALL and a great left handed defender. His leadership on and off the floor, and his passion for the game of lacrosse and his playing ability will assist the Timbermen during their second straight playoff run. Lemire will suit up for the T-Men in their home game against their Island rivals, Victoria Shamrocks.

Next home game is Friday July 4th at the NIC as the Timbermen face the Victoria Shamrocks at 8:00pm. This night will be 'theme night and fan appreciation night'. The theme is "Hawaain Beach Night"; all fans are asked to come wearing shorts, sandals and Hawaiian shirts, Beach shirts will be acceptable. More details to follow.

Playoff Bound!

June 29, 2008
The Jr. Timbermen played 2 good periods in their 2nd loss of the season to the Port Coquitlam Saints, which took them out of a possibility of acquiring 5th place in the BCJrALL standings.

The Timbermen came out strong carrying a 5-2 margin over the host Saints but it was the Saints whom prevailed with a 10-8 victory, securing a 'no lower' than 5th place finish and a possible playoff match-up with the Burnaby Lakers. The Timbermen on the other hand, now had to travel home to face the constant nemisis, South Fraser Stickmen.

Nanaimo came out 'guns a blazin' with Colton Clark firing the first 3 Timbermen goals past Graham Chandler. With a 5-3 first period lead, it was evident to S.F. that they had to come out hard. The Stickemen did just that and caught the hosts with their guards down as they scored 4 straight goals to make Nanaimo change goalies for a momentum change; after doing so the Stickmen scored quickly to make the score 7-5, Stickmen.

The Timbermen dug down deep to eliminate the 2 goal deficit and take an 8-7 lead into the third. Action went back and forth and it was 11-10 Timbermen with just over a minute left when South Fraser tied the game after going 6 on 5. A 10 minute Overtime ensued and Jon Diplock put the home team ahead 12-11. Frantically, the Stickmen tried to surmount a comeback again but the Timbermen wouldn't allow them another opportunity. Colton Clark ragged the ball for most of the 30 second shot clock and with S.F. putting on extra pressure with their 'tender pulled, Clark found Bremner for the empty net goal with just seconds remaining. Final score 13-11 and the Timbermen again take 6th place and enter the playoffs again, awaiting two games left in their season.

Weekend Split

June 23, 2008
The Jr. Timbermen spent the weekend on the mainland as they faced Delta on Saturday and Coquitlam on Sunday.

Starting out slow, the 'Loggers' could not manage a fast exit from their own end but did manage to outshoot the host Delta club. Unfortunately, the visitors could not put any of their 28 shots past the Islanders Scott Lowe and the Timbermen found themselves down 3-0 at the end of the first period.

In the second period, the Islanders were thwarted on the dismall 5 shots on goal that they had; the Timbermen absolutely controlled the second period of play and dominated that period with Bremner scoring twice and Forslund and Clark getting singles. Sam Corcoran was in net and was playing particularly well throughout this contest. End of two periods; 4-3 for the visiting Timbermen.

Delta came alive in the third, outshooting the visitors 19-12 but managed only a 2-2 tie in the final frame as the visitors finished the game with a 6-5 victory and a 2-1 season series lead; pivotal now that both teams are fighting with Port Coquitlam for the 5th and 6th playoff spots.

Game two of the weekend had the Timbermen in Coquitlam. Coming off a win in Delta, Nanaimo came out very quick and equalled the shots that the Adanacs offered. Diplock opened the scoring shorthanded as Wray sat in the sin bin for high sticking. That seemed to motivate the home team as they poured in 4 straight goals, 2 on the powerplay as the visitors fell behind 4-1 after one period.

The Adanacs got 2 goals in the second period and shut out the visiting Nanaimo squad as neither team could gain a strong hold of the game. Lewis and Dickie were playing superb for their respective teams but it was the A's that managed to ripple the twine.

Nanaimo got on track in the third scoring three but couldn't get enough horsepower to knock down the deficit enough. Final score; Adanacs 8 - Timbermen 4.

Next game is June 28th in Port Coquitlam against the Saints. Next home game is Sunday June 29th versus the troublesome South Fraser Stickmen. Game time is 5:00pm at the NIC.

T-Men; Their Own Worst Enemy

June 11, 2008
The Jr. Timbermen are still not in tune with each other. The Timbermen crew have put together some incredible games over the past month but have not been able to maintain that play as of recent versus the likes of Delta, South Fraser or New Westminster. If the T-Men plan on making a move up the standings and distance themselves from the teams nipping at thier toes; now is the time.

After an injury riddled start to the season, the Timbermen have shown signs of improvement and can play with the league powerhouses but consistency has been their downfall. With games in Delta on Saturday and against Port Coquitlam on Sunday at home; now is when the Timbermen need to 'Sharpen their chains' and 'Ready their Axes' so to speak, to make the late season push up the standings.
